Features and Benefits of the DTAPS® NFPA 1994 Class 2 System

Feature

Description

Benefit

Fully integrated and complete system

Complete system includes suit, gloves, boots, hood & respiratory system; all individual components were configured & tested together as a unified system

' Satisfies operational need for safe, reliable & totally integrated system
' Allows total package procurement

Extensive suit material testing

Suit material tested against CW agents GA, GB, GD, HD, L & VX, the 21 ASTM F 1001 chemicals, plus over 200 additional chemicals

' Suit material has proven chemical resistance

Suit seam testing

Suit seams tested against CW agents GB, HD, L & VX

' Suit seams have proven chemical resistance
' Verifies integrity of suit seams and suit fabrication quality

Tested as an integrated system

Complete system compliant with SF6 inward leakage test protocol in NFPA 1994 and passed ASTM F 1359 shower spray test

' Verifies the safety & reliability of protective ensemble

Coverall design

Non-encapsulating coverall with separate splash hood

' Provides better visual acuity, less distortion & greater peripheral vision than totally-encapsulating Level B suits
' Provides greater mobility than totally-encapsulating Level B suits
' Air cylinder can be easily changed out

Splash hood

Splash hood is constructed of heavy-weight (11 oz/yd2) butyl-coated nylon fabric with 30 mil stretch butyl rubber membrane insert (custom fitted to the SCBA face mask)

' Hood/mask interface is liquid tight
' Splash hood can be reused many times
' Hood protects from gross liquid splash
' Greater hearing acuity than totally-encapsulating Level B suit
' No taping needed

Respiratory protective system Interspiro 60-minute open circuit SCBA ' Approved for use in CBRN environments

Air inlet

Air inlet provides slight over-pressure to coverall

' Gives coverall increased resistance to vapor intrusion
' Provides higher protection factor than other coveralls
' Minimizes the “bellows effect”

Neck dam

Coverall incorporates a close-fitting adjustable neck dam constructed of Tychem® SL

' Resists vapor intrusion from the “bellows effect”

Suit closure

Liquid-resistant zipper assembly with

2-ply double splash flaps

' Assembly resists vapor intrusion
' Liquid will not penetrate coverall closure assembly
' 2-ply splash flap design will not wick liquids
' No taping needed

Glove system

24 mil neoprene/butyl gloves are mechanically attached to coverall

' Neoprene/butyl gloves have combined resistance to chemical warfare agents & POLs
' Glove attachment assembly is vapor & liquid tight
' Gloves are easily changed out
' Can be configured with glove liners for additional chemical resistance
' No taping needed

Booties

Integral booties and boot splash flaps incorporated into coverall

' Provides vapor & liquid tight attachment to coverall
' Splash flaps prevent liquid splash from entering boots
' No taping needed

Boots

Boots are seamless PVC alloy with steel safety toe, full steel mid-sole & steel ladder shank; boots meet NFPA 1991 and NFPA 1994 chemical permeation resistance requirements

' Provide excellent impact protection
' Provide excellent cut & puncture resistance
' Provide excellent chemical resistance
